What a magic repertoire app should do.

Your repertoire is what you can perform tomorrow, not what sits in the drawer. These are the jobs a good app does for it.

  • Catalog tricks, acts, routines, and techniques

Four kinds of things, linked together, so a trick knows which routines use it and which act those routines sit in.

  • Keep notes on effect, method, and performance

What the audience sees, how you get there (kept private), and what happened the last time you did it live.

  • Track practice

A trick you learned in March and never touched again is not in your repertoire. You need to see what is slipping.

  • Hold the backstage material

Props, books and other literature, magicians who influenced you, events, communities, stores, media, and websites, all tied to the tricks they belong to.

  • Journal what you learn

Rehearsal notes, ideas, and what worked on a real audience, attached to the trick instead of lost in a notes app.

  • Keep it private

A repertoire is a list of secrets. The app holding it should not be able to read it.

Why privacy matters for a magic repertoire.

Most note apps and spreadsheets store your text in a form the company can read. For a grocery list that is fine. For a method, it means your secrets sit on someone else's server, one data leak or one policy change away from being somebody else's.

Trickifi encrypts your repertoire, backstage items, and journal entries on your device with 256-bit AES before anything reaches our servers. No one, including Trickifi staff, can read your secrets. That is also why the content on our servers is useless to anyone who breaks in.

It has limits. Encryption can't protect a secret you show a friend over your shoulder, and a trick you share goes to one magician at a time. Within those limits, your methods stay yours.

How the encryption works

How Trickifi works in practice.

You add a trick with its effect, method, origin, and performance notes. You group tricks into routines and routines into acts. Techniques and backstage items link in by name, so a prop or a book shows up on every trick that uses it.

Then you practice. Each trick can run a Mastery Journey: a schedule of rehearsals built on the Mastery Formula, with reminders, recorded rehearsals you watch back and score, and a journal entry for anything you notice. It can't put the hours in for you, but it shows you which tricks are getting them.

Trickifi doesn't sell or teach tricks. The world already has plenty. This is where you keep them and get good at them.

How a magic repertoire app compares with the tools you use now (2027).

Most magicians start with whatever is already on their phone. Here is what each common tool does well for a repertoire, and where it runs out. We made Trickifi, so weigh our entry accordingly.

  • Trickifi

Catalog for tricks, acts, routines, and techniques, plus backstage items, a journal, Mastery Journeys with recorded and scored rehearsals, and practice tracking. Content is encrypted on your device.

  • A paper notebook

Free, private if you keep it close, and fine for a few dozen tricks. It will not remind you to practice, link a trick to its routine, or survive a lost bag.

    Paper·Free

  • A spreadsheet

Good for sorting and counting: a row per trick, a column for status. It gets awkward once a trick needs notes, a video, a prop list, and a place in a routine, and the file is readable by whoever hosts it.

    Any spreadsheet app·Usually free

  • A notes app

Quick to open and easy to search, which makes it the most common first home for a repertoire. Notes stay flat, so connecting a trick to its routine, its props, and its practice history is up to you, and most notes apps store your text in a form the provider can read.

    Phone or desktop·Usually free

  • A calendar and reminders

Useful for blocking practice time and nudging you to rehearse. It knows nothing about which tricks are slipping, so the schedule is only as good as the list you keep elsewhere.

    Phone or desktop·Free

  • Photo and video folders

The right place for recordings of your performances and rehearsals. Without notes attached, a clip of a routine from last spring tells you little about what you changed or why.

Camera roll or cloud storage·Free up to your storage limit

  • Talking it through with an AI assistant

Helpful for brainstorming patter or structuring a set. It does not hold your repertoire between conversations unless you paste it back in, and anything you type, methods included, goes to someone else's servers.

    Chat apps·Free and paid tiers

Magic repertoire questions.

What is a magic repertoire?
It is the set of tricks, routines, and acts you can perform on demand. That is smaller than your collection, which is everything you own or have ever learned. A repertoire app tracks the first list so the second one doesn't bury it.
How do I organize my magic tricks?
Start with what you can perform, not what you own. Give each trick a name, a short note on the effect, a private note on the method, and a place in a routine or act. Then log your practice so you can see what is slipping. A notebook works for a few dozen tricks. An app earns its place when you want search, reminders, and notes that stay private.
Is my trick data private?
Yes. Trickifi encrypts your repertoire, backstage items, and journal entries on your device before they reach our servers, so no one, including Trickifi staff, can read them. You choose what to share, and only content you created yourself can be shared.
Can I track practice?
Yes. Each trick can run a Mastery Journey with scheduled rehearsals and reminders. You record a rehearsal, watch it back, and score it, and Trickifi shows what to work on next. Journal entries attach to the trick or the rehearsal.
Is a magic repertoire app free?
Trickifi will always include a free plan. It holds up to 50 repertoire items, up to 100 backstage items, and runs 3 Mastery Journeys at a time. Trickifi+ lifts those limits for $9.99 a month or $89 a year, and you can upgrade or downgrade at any time.
Does Trickifi sell or teach magic tricks?
No. It is where you keep the tricks you already have and get better at them. For places to find new material, see our lists of free magic tricks and magic apps.
