The audience shuffles a normal red deck and someone calls out a number. As this is happening, the magician pulls out a blue card and holds it face down in their hand. The magician directs the volunteer to deal, face down, into the magician's hand not holding the blue card to the number that was given. The magician drops the blue card on top of the dealt cards, grabs the left over cards in the spectator's hand to remove them from play, then turns over the blue card and the card they stopped at, revealing identical cards.

When the magician pulls out the blue card, its red-backed duplicate is hidden underneath but held to look like one card. During the motion of grabbing the remaining, un-dealt cards from the spectator, the magician drops the double on top of the counted cards putting the force in place just beneath the blue card.
